Can you plug a laptop into the phone line?
without is being dial up? And how do you do that? Like what types of cords do I need.
I'm getting an Acer 15.6 laptop for Christmas and my mom just told me to plug it into the phone line and the laptop already has a modem in it I don't know, she's computer illiterate so there's no way she's right.

Sorry but your Mom is right this time. The laptop will have a modem built in, along with a wireless card and a network port. As long as you have a dial up account with a ISP (and the Tel # and password) then you will be able to connect. You would use a regular telephone cord.
Now if your Mom is saying to plug it into the telephone line and you will have the Internet then she is so WRONG!.
If you can, talk your Mom into high speed (DSL or Cable), you will be disappointed with dial up.
