Can you upgrade the harddrive and ram of a 15.4 Mac Book pro after you buy it?
I want to know this because Apple doesnt offer 7200 rpm drive for the 15.4 notebooks. Also the cost of ram is Outrageous. $750 for 3gb of 667 DDR2 when you can go to newegg the same amount of ram for a third of the price. I heard rumors that upgrading afterwards is damn near impossible.
I think its also ludicrious to had to take notebook to a reseller just to install ram!? Most notebooks have a panel on the bottom of the computer where you can just pop it off (well unscrew) stick a stick a ram in and your done. Sames goes for the harddrive (save for the reinstall of the OS and drivers). So what Im really asking is has anyone successfully dont either of these to a 15.4 Macbook pro, and can it be done.
Yes.
But, memory is the only thing Apple considers to be user upgradable. If you replace the hard drive, then any damage you may do during the replace will not be covered by warranty. The rest of the warranty remains in effect, except for the hard drive itself. Of course, the manufacturers warranty should cover that.
