What are the effects if the laptop voltage and the charger voltage are not equal?
I mistakenly bought an 19v HP charger for my 18v Compaq Presario v3000. However, when i plug in the charger into the unit, the laptop can still run and be used. I am just wondering if this would have any bad effect in the long run.
Over voltage or under voltage can have negative effects on your computer. Over voltage presents the risk of overheating or burning out components. Under voltage causes abrupt system restarts, loss of data, BSoDs, and overall decreases in system functionality (due to the lack of available voltage for the CPU). While the laptop will function with a slight over voltage, the life of your laptop will be greatly decreased.
