A question or three about the external/internal HDD on PlayStation 3 slim?
Are there 500G-1TB notebook drives that I can install into a PS3 slim?
Also, would an external drive work well with the PS3 slim?
If so, do you think the external drive would be noticeably slower?
There are plenty of 500 GB drives that will work with the PS3. Expect to pay $90-$100.
The only one I know of bigger than 500 GB is made by Western Digital. They make a 1 TB in that size. However, it spins at a speed slower than what Sony recommends and I'm told the PS3 won't even read an internal notebook drive that's over 500 GB in capacity. 500 GB should be plenty anyway.
An external drive is only useful if you have a lot of media (videos, photos, music) or backing up data. You can't save to an external hard drive during the game and you can't load data from the external hard drive during the game.
