Sharing 2TB HDD on Home Network?
I have 2 computers in my house. One is upstairs and is a laptop running Windows 7 Ultimate. The other is downstairs and a desktop and running Windows 7 Home Premium. Both computers are using a router as the access point connected wireless. The 2 computers have different names.
On the computer downstairs I have a 2TB HDD connected that I would like to share over the network the files on the 2TB HDD so that I can access the files upstairs on the separate computer. These files are mostly movies / tv shows. Please provide guidance on how I can do this.
**Rute I did exactly what you said, and still no luck. I am using McAfee security center and my McAfee firewall is set for my router range as trusted. What else can I do? Both computers are under the same workgroup named "homegroup"
Its really pretty easy. You just need to put both computers into the same Workgroup, restart, and then access the files you want. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > System. Check the Computer's name, you'll need to know each of these. Also on this screen, you should see the Domain name or Workgroup name. Make sure both computers have the same Workgroup name. Make a change and restart if needed. After the restart, to access the remote computer, go to Start > Run, type \computernamec$ and hit enter. Now you're looking at the C drive of the remote computer. From here, just browse to the folder you want, and find your files. If you need to get to D, or E, or any other drive letter, type \computernamed$ or \computernamee$, whatever one it is you're trying to get to.
