Should i buy a Sager 8850 with a 480m or a Sager 8120 with dual 285m in SLI?
In both cases I would be looking into a SSD main drive for programs with a 7200rpm backup.
I am going into college this year and plan on this laptop lasting 4 years.
Both computers are heavy and have terrible batter life I am more interested in performace.
The 285M in SLI will outperform a single 480m, but just by a small margin.
I'd go with the 480M due to the support for DirectX 11. In four years, that may be a significant factor.
Personally, I recommend the $1200 ASUS with the i7-720QM and 360M graphics as being powerful without being a budget buster: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220700
