i just bought a 500gb maxtor external harddrive, but my laptop will not see it, states it as an unknown object?
My laptop has xp service pack 3, if that helps
Check the maxtor website for a driver that works with XP3. Since it sees it as an unidentified object, that means your usb cable is working and the unit has power. The laptop would not see it otherwise, and since if cannot id it then it needs a driver update.
