A dj/laptop question: I want to use a laptop as the base of my setup and scratch cd's with the same setup
What equipment do you suggest and is this even a wise decision for a mobile dj?
Laptop? Man I do trust them. Besides, keep it real and get yourself a American Audio MP3 500 system. The players play MP3 files and you can actually touch and feel the music. I started out on records and a pair of 1200's back in the day. These decks feel and act just like turntables and you can get 2 players a mixer and case for only 1k. Hella of deal. I hate those laptop programs. When you play at a show. You only have 4 or 5 hours. How many songs can you play? Depending on what you plan on djing? You won't need that much music.

It is up to you. It is awesome to actually mix and scratch with your cd's. As a mobile jock you really will not do much scratching. Clean beat matching and mixing and keeping people on your dance floor is the key.
Most weddings you are pretty much going to mix about 3 sets of stuff from 113 bpm ( Beats Per Minute) to around 140
I found that I played so much of the same junk. I mainly just mixed clean and kept them dancing. It is just the way it is. Get yourself affordable gear. It takes a while to earn back the investment. Check out that system. Pro Sound Stage and Lighting in California carries it as well as most of the major websites. sixstar dj, music 123, etc. The American Audio DLS 15 P Powered Speakers are pretty sweet too. I bought a full extra setup for only $1600. The speakers are available at Guitar Center for $299 each. Best of luck.
