How to stop laptop battery life from reducing?
My old laptop lasts about 5 minutes when it isnt pugged in. I now have a new laptop and dont want the same thing to happen. Should i only charge the laptop when the battery depletes fully? It is a lithium ion battery and i should be able to charge it whenever without any worry.
Unfortunately that kind of degradation happens to all batteries eventually, but yes there are ways you can prolong the life.
For starters try not to expose the battery to any adverse temperatures - try to keep it at room temperature as often as possible. Never let the ambient temp around your battery drop less than 50 degrees Fahrenheit (sp?) and never let it heat up above 90.
You are right, you can charge the battery whenever you want and it shouldn't hurt things, however it is good for the battery if you do occasionally deplete it entirely and then charge it all the way back up entirely. Do it maybe once every other month.
Next, try not to stress the battery too much. Adjust the power settings on your computer so that the energy demand doesn't slam the battery.
