Is it safe to carry a laptop around when it is on?
I have a hp pavilion zt3000 and have had multiple problems with multiple hard drives. If I close the top and carry it around it has crashed the computer more than once using different hard drives. Is this a hard drive issue or something else?
The hard drive is spinning at a few thousand rpm while it is on and the heads are moving back and forth across it a fraction of the thickness of a human hair above the surface. If the heads hit the surface, it leaves a lovely scar and wipes out data. When you shift a spinning wheel it has interesting torque on it, think of experiments with spinning bicycle wheels in school science.
The hard drive has suspension features to protect it as much as possible when it is off.
Ya, I would say you are destroying hard drives carrying it around running.
