In a CDRW/DVD ROM combo, CD drive still works but all DVDs are unrecognized.?
Hi,
I have CDRW/DVD ROM combo in my laptop (Windows XP Pro). Few days ago, this combo drive started behaving in a strage way. It still reads/writes CDs but it doesn't play DVDs. When I insert a DVD drive, nothing happens.
When I browse "My Computer" after inserting a DVD, it does show the DVD drive as a "Removable storage" but when I click on the drive to open, it doesn't show any files on the drive.
Note: Same DVDs used to work poperly on my system and DVDs still work fine on other systems i.e. no problems with DVDs.
Please let me know what may be wrong with the drive.

I have a dell latitude, it has a modular drive that snaps into the bay. It behaves the same way at times. Usually pulling the drive out of the bay pushing it back in more firmly solves this. The cd reader/writer doesn't seem to be as picky as the dvd reader head is.
