Should I buy new parts or just upgrade?
I currently have an HP Compaq nx7000 laptop (built in 2005). Here are the specs:
Intel Centrino Processor at 1.6GHz
512 MB of DDR RAM (2x 256)
60 GB Hard Drive.
My question is, should I upgrade the RAM and processor for about $200-300, or should I just save up for a new laptop (approx $500-700)

Getting the new machine is the best way to go ... that way you can keep this machine as a back-up. If that new machine has a hiccup you are not laptopless.
The 60 GB drive was just fine a few years ago ... now it is not that big. Cameras are getting more megapixals so pictures take up more space.
My $0.02 worth of advice ...
