What does "Efficiency Level IV" mean on my notebook PC charger?
I've been looking up reasons why my notebook battery is only lasting about 2/3 battery life as when I bought it (about three months ago). I use it all the time, but mainly it stays plugged in and I fully charged it when I first got it. Anyways, I was looking up why it isn't lasting so long anymore and a few places I found said to make sure the charger is a quality charger and works best with your battery...does the efficiency level have to with it...if so what does it mean?
The mark means the adapter is efficient enough to meet the International Efficiency Marking Protocol, that is, it doesn't waste much energy as heat. It doesn't have anything to do with how well it charges the battery. The reason your battery capacity has gone down is most likely because it stays mostly at 100% charge, and because of the heat of the laptop. A Li-Ion battery left at 100% charge will irreversibly lose about 20% of its capacity every year, this happens much faster if it is at a high temperature as well. If you use your laptop plugged in all the time you may want to take the battery out when it is plugged in.
