Laptop Help! cant decide. Looking at Mini Laptops?

I have a Mac clamshell, and i dislike of it alot. its slow and i still dont understand how to use it. its just pretty. lol.

I just want a computer that surfs the internet ( and youtube)
and one i can write my storys on, and put pictures on, that can download things, such as Yahoo! msgr, and AIM. and that can hold music.

both of these do not have CD rom Drives or CD burners, but thats okay, i dont mind, i have a bunch of memorys sticks.

they have these ones called mini laptops, there extrememly cheap in price, im debating on 2 right now.

1. Asus 7" Eee pc2g. $300.00 512 MB 4 GB, built in wifi.
with Linpus Linux

2. Acer 8.9" $338.00 512 MB upgradable to 1 GB , 4 GB, dont know about wifi, built in webcam, with linpux linux as well.

there both about the same with some variations,

I just dont know which is better, acer or Asus,
and is linux like windows or mac?
because, macs are cool, but windows is easier to use.
both have good and bad.

any idea? any advice?

Whatever you decide, its definitely worth spending a little extra to get a RAM upgrade, if you want your laptop to last a few years and still be fast go for at least 2GB of RAM and a dual core processor -

Option 2 looks good if you can get it with 2Gb, i have an Acer with 2Gb, and dual core, its really fast!
