Will the ORiNOCO GOLD PCMCIA 802.11b WiFi CARD (w antenna jack) work with Compaq contura aero 4/33c?
Because i have the Compaq contura aero 4/33c laptop and i just want to use for internet connection. And i just found this adapter on ebay and i was wondering if it will work?
There are a few things you need to check for:
1. Does the computer have a PC Card slot? (I believe it does from the pictures)
2. Does it support the Bit size of the card (there are 16 and 32 bit cards and slots). A 32bit slot can support both 32 and 16 bit, but a 16 bit slot can't support 32 bit.
3. Does the Card fit? There are 3 major types, all of different heights. I do believe the Orinico is Type 2, which should fit in almost all PC card slots.
4. Are you using XP if you want to use native Wifi control?
5. If you are not using XP, does this wireless card have a utility that installs on Win 95/98/NT?
6. Are the drivers easy to come by?
There is a very good chance this card will work. I think any major issue you will see will be with the drivers and software. From my own personal experience, Orinoco has hard to find drivers. You may want to invest in a brand name company (but avoid Belkin because I have had a high failure rate with them)
