What are the better options when buying a new notebook computer?
I will be buying a laptop for college &I need information about the aspects of the computer to make a wise decision before I buy one. Please help me out:
Difference in Windows Vista Basic and Premium (price difference $35, is it worth it? & I have to added memory).
Difference in Intel Celeron, Intel Pentium dual core, Intel Core Duo, Intel Core 2 Duo, Mobile AMD Sempron(TM) 3500+ (1.80GHz/512KB) , AMD Turion(TM) 64 Mobile MK-36 (2.0 GHz/512KB) , and AMD Turion(TM) 64 X2 Dual-Core TL-50(1.6GHz/512KB). Difference in Intel and AMD? Whats would be the best for me?
2GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm) and 1GB DDR2 (2x512MB), how much impact will that make on the commputer wit h the extra GB?
Is a min. of 80GB hard drive good or should I go for more? the main use of the notebook is music, pictures, internet use & typing papers.
802.11b/g WLAN & Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection?
6 Cell Lithium Ion, High Capacity 6 Cell Lithium Ion , & 12 cell battery?
Sounds like you are looking at an HP Pavilion notebook.
-Vista premium is worth the extra $35.. has more features and stuff... Vista basic is basically a redo of Windows XP
-AMD mobile processors are not as good as Intel right now. The Intel Core 2 Duo is the best and newest processor available.
-1 gb is probably enough to run windows Vista smoothly but if you plan to do more intense programs (video editing/ 3d designing/ lots of newer PC games) you might want the extra GB. Remember you can always upgrade RAM later and it might be worth it to wait and look for a good deal or sale from another store to upgrade later, instead of paying extra from the start..
-80GB is probably ample for a laptop, and remember you can always upgrade the HDD or buy another external HDD fairly cheaply (under $100) to store extra stuff on.
-I would go with the Intel PRO 3945 wireless because it is compliant with Centrino technology, Intel's standard "branding" for efficiency and reliability notebooks. It is probably more reliable and energy-efficient than just the standard integrated wireless solutions. (I'm not entirely sure though.. might wanna research it more online..)
-I hear that on an HP notebook, the 6-cell gets just over 2 hours of life... so if you plan to travel lots, get a bigger battery or get extra batteries..
Hope it helps!
