what laptop computers get the least amount of viruses?
I'm looking to purchase a new laptop within the next year and I want the BEST one. I've had my current laptop for almost 4 years and I think it's about to go out. It's an Dell INSPIRON 600m laptop.....bottom of the line laptop. I want my next laptop to be a good buy but also tech savy and not be prone to viruses. Is it true that Apple computers get less viruses than Dell computers?
Laptops themselves aren't truly prone to viruses; it's the operating system that runs on them that gets them.
Windows is a very large corporations, with millions of computers running their OS. Because the majority of home users use Windows, it would be common logic for virus writers to write viruses for the most used operating system.
As for the notion of Macs being immune to viruses, that is not true. As long as it can run on your computer, it can be prone to viruses. The reason why Macs get less, is because Windows is more popular (though Apple software is starting to be used more and more) and Windows has a lot of exploitable vulnerabilities. The bottom line is, the manufacturer doesn't determine whether or not the computer catches a virus, it's the implementation of an antivirus software. It's kind of like, just because one person is Caucasian while the other is African doesn't mean one is immune to diseases; sure, one may catch diseases easier than others, but that's beside the point. If you truly want to keep viruses out of computer, you ought to be deciding on which is the best antivirus software out there to protect yourself. Because a strong immune system is better than a weak one, or none at all.
