Why don't Compaq laptop computers come bundled with a 'Recovery DVD' (HP laptops come with a 'Recovery DVD') ?
Today I bought a Compaq notebook PC which has Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic pre-installed (genuine). I had to manually create a 'Recovery Disk' using a Compaq utility (which is also pre-installed on the system). I've seen that HP, Sony & Toshiba laptops come with a 'Recovery DVD' already bundled with them. Since the cost of blank DVDs is so low, why doesn't Compaq bundle them with their laptop computers?
Why try to save some cents, and cause the user unnecessary (and avoidable) hassle?
Some of the early answers inform me that even Sony & HP don't bundle Recovery Disks with their laptops (at least in some cases).
Why? Is cost a factor, or is it due to a business and/or technical reason?
My new Sony VAIO didn't come with recovery disks - I had to create them myself.
One of the first things most user guides tell you is to make a recovery disk yourself, if it doesn't come with one. It doesn't take long, and it ensures you get a disk that works with your system, instead of possibly having a generic disk with wrong drivers on it.
