Which version of Win 7 for my Macbook Pro Core 2 Duo?
I'd like to add Windows 7 (via Bootcamp) to my MacBook Pro. Specs are 2.8 GHz Core 2 Duo, with 4 GB of RAM. Do I need Win 7 Professional in order to take full advantage of my chipset? I read only Pro or above supports > 1 processor. Does a Core 2 Duo count as 1 or 2 physical processors? Thanks!
Windows 7 doesn't hit the shelves until tomorrow, Oct. 22, 2009, so I couldn't find any tutorials that don't use W7 RC1 instead.
As stated in the first link, albeit vaguely, you will need a FULL OEM or Retail version of Windows 7 Home Premium (32-bit) or higher, AND a fully updated Leopard or Snow Leopard.
Secondly, you may not be able to run any Windows (XP and up) x64 bit versions, unless your specific Model of MBP supports them, and you WILL also need the latest version of Boot Camp (currently 2.1).
And, please trust me on this: Upgrade Windows DVDs will NOT work, I tried. Here's an example "Step by Step" for W7 RC1:
Finally, it's the W7 Operating System that supports 2 or more physical CPUs, but it's the "Windows-compatible 3rd party applications" that can, or can't, see and use multiple CPUs. This will change rapidly when W7 gains market share, IMHO.
