What is the best kind of laptop cushion? I mean the thing that you put under the laptop to prevent your skin?

and the desk from getting warm. What brand and what store can I buy a good one for a good price?

The best kind is to try and keep the laptop on a solid surface (e.g. Wood, Glass, etc) at all times as anything else just blocks what little cooling / ventilation laptops have and causes them to warm up.... my HP NC4010 tends to get rather warm when i use it on the livingroom carpet (to the point where I thought I smelt burning last time)... yet keeping it on the solid wooden coffee table kept the laptop as cool as a cucumber.

However "Akasa" (mostly specialise in cooling solutions for serious PC overclocking freaks) do a range of Notebook coolers:
