My Dell laptop battery went out and they are quoting me 115 dollars for a new one!?
My laptop is two years old now and lately it's been saying my battery needs to be replaced. If I unplug it from the wall, it shuts off also! I called Dell because I have a extended warranty and their warranty covers everything but batteries. They also said that the batteries are only usually good for a year because of the chemical in them? He said don't use it because it can mess my computer up or be harmful to me if battery is not replaced. Anyone had this happen? What to do?

No, batteries can be good for more than a year too. Depends on your usage really. A battery's life gradually reduces and eventually it dies. You should be glad yours lasted 2 years. Most batteries don't last that long nowadays. But again, it differs from person to person, the usage pattern varies.

You can simply remove the battery from the laptop and keep it aside until you find a way to recycle it. Your laptop would work just fine on charger alone. Of course, mobility would be hampered.
