do I need an external sound card?
So I make my own music on Ableton Live, and I want to mix it live with other tracks, bascially dj. I've got my gateway laptop running windows vista, traktor and ableton live and I have that connected to my Korg NANOseries MIDI controllers and a Numark M6 USB DJ Mixer I am planning to buy. Is there a need to buy an external soundcard? I don't really know what would that soundcard do or why would I need it in any case.
If you want to be able to use headphone monitoring for being able to preview a track in taktor before sending out to the main output then you'll need a DJ soundcard with a monitor and main output. Without this you'll just be guessing what part of the track you're on and how it will sound when you hit play on a deck that you're mixing in.
Edit: if your USB mixer has a built in soundcard then you won't need a separate one.
