Will universal power supply work with Fujitsu Siemens Amilo m1450g?
I have just bought a universal power supply for my Fujitsu Siemens Amilo m1450g. It says I need to ensure I have centre positive power tip which is represented by a positive and negative symbol:

However, my laptop has a different symbol by it's power input. It looks like a single straight line over a dashed line. A little like this:

I haven't been able to find what this symbol means and I do not want to risk my laptops health.
The universal power supply should have a way of changing the polarity. However, almost every laptop uses the center as the positive and the exterior as the negative as you show in the top picture. The main reason why Fujitsu does not show the same symbol is that they do not recommend using just any power supply. I have one from Radio Shack that I use on my laptop that is called a switching power supply. What this does, is it shuts down the power supply if anything causes the power to not flow the way that it is set up. This will virtually stop any spikes in the power, as well as trying to use the wrong settings. As long as the voltage of the Universal is set to be somewhat close and not much over the power requirements of the laptop it should work. Setting the voltage too high will burn out the battery recharging board which is a $200.00 repair for a $5.00 part, so be careful when setting it up the first time. Hope this helps
