How to make my HP G60's battery last longer?
Ive owned a few HPs and Compaqs and other notebook PCs and they all have one thing in common, the battery life on them is horrible. Ive used Macbooks an the battery life on them is much much longer. On my current laptop my battery life is about 45m running basic programs, (firefox with a few tabs, and occasionally itunes.) what can I do make my battery life last longer. I already run the computer with dimmed light and on "power saver" mode. My battery life gets worse by the day and from past experience it will reach the point where my battery only has a 10m life. what battery can I buy that will last longer. I take my laptop to class and sometimes an outlet is nowhere near me. Macbooks last like 4hrs + on one full charge
To do this, go click on the battery meter icon from the Windows Taskbar and select one of the default power plans: Balanced or Power Saver. These are the power plans that come with Windows 7. The balanced plan will give you full performance when needed, but will keep the battery drain to a minimum while the Power Saver plan will extend the battery life by a more but will also provide slower overall performance and lower brightness of your display
If you want to create your own power plan (by combining the elements you need and discarding the ones you don’t), here are a few tips on what consumes your battery most.
The display uses more power than most other components of your computer. Make sure your are not using too much power on your display by dialing down the brightness to the last level you feel comfortable with.
To dial down the display brightness use the buttons on your laptop or go to Control Panel->Power Options and tweak them there.
It is also a good idea to make Windows dim down and turn off the display more rapidly than it does by default. To do this, go to Start->Control Panel->System and Security Power Options, select a power plan click on “Choose when to turn of the display”. Note that this will adjust the setting only for the plan you are currently using. Click on Save Changes before exiting.
In addition, make sure you turned down the USB or Wireless Devices you are not using. This includes USB flash drives, any USB mouse, etc.
