gaming laptop?
hi im about 14 years old and i am a HUGE gamer. i like games like gears of war and high resolution incredible games but in order to play them i need a realy good computar. i got a computar about 1 1/2 years ago and it was realy fast. i got it for $1200 it was the top of the line pc back then. Now i Want a computar that can go faster and run more effitiently but i want it to be a laptop. i have been doing my research and a bunch of prosseser options come up. i dont know which one to choose, these are what come up: The "x-tream" systems, the "AMD" systems, and the "Intel core duo" systems. my old pc had a intel core duo and i realy want a fast laptop. So what should i choose? i also need to know what brand i should get. i have around 1500-2000 dollars and i also want a blue ray player and cd burner and at least 250 hd space. PLEASE HELP I DONT KNOW WHAT TO GET!?!?!?!
I was able to configure a good one on Dell's site and keep it around $1800. Here are the specs:
Inspiron 1720
Intel Core 2 Duo T9300 (2.5GHz/800Mhz FSB/6MB cache)
Vista Home Premium Edition
High Resolution, glossy widescreen 17.0 inch display (1920 x 1200)
256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8600M GT
4GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 at 667mhz
250GB SATA hard drive at 5400rpm
Blu-ray Disc Combo (DVD+/-RW + BD-ROM)
That came to $1799. Keep in mind that after shipping/taxes it will end up right at $2000, maybe less by up to $75.
Now, I know a lot of people are going to respond about not liking Vista, but I game on it and have no problems at all. It runs Crysis like a champ...PLUS (and this is a big plus), Windows XP does not have Direct X 10, only Vista does. DX10 does wonders to visuals, even the visuals of older games.
Keep in mind hard drive speed. Anything below 5400 rpm is pushing it. 7200rpm is ideal, but I didn't see any on Dell's site in the 250gig size that you wanted. Also, the cost of the Blu-Ray drive is what's making the price on these so high. I can definitely understand why you want it, but the cost of a blu-ray drive adds $250+ onto the price, easily.
EDIT
In response to a post made after mine, if you're going to get choosy about what hardware goes into your system then you're more than likely going to be buying the pieces yourself and building your own system. I've owned two Dell laptops, an Inspiron 8500 and Inspiron 9400. Both have been running pretty much 24/7 for years and neither has broken so far. The 8500 I bought in 2003 and have yet to have any problems with it. The 9400 I bought roughly one and a half years ago and have yet to see any problems with it, either.
Also, we use nothing but Dell's where I work. I work in the IT department and we buy nothing but Dell's because we have such good luck with them. And countrary to what you said, their tech support is really good. What makes people think it's bad is that the techs have to go through a series of questions before they can get you a replacement part, as a process of narrowing down your problem for sure.
So in summary, I <3 Dell. So does my company and the 150 employees that work there.
