Can you explain to me what the Ram is for in a Laptop? What does it do...
The same for the GHz, what does it do and what is it for?

RAM is memory, without the system is useless. The more the better, better = faster.

GHZ is clock speed for your processor, typically the more the better is true here. But... you can have a 3GHz single core processor, but it won't be as efficient as a dual core or quad core 2.5GHz processor.
