How do I determine the value of a hardcover, signed, best-selling novel ('The Notebook' by Nicholas Sparks)
I came across in a thrift store a copy of 'The Notebook' by Nicholas Sparks, that someone clearly donated by mistake or without knowing it was a collectible. But I'm not sure what it's worth, and the resources I've checked online have not been very helpful.
What I have is a hardcover with dust jacket, and it is unread and has no flaws whatsoever that I can find. It's a first edition, but I assume because the numbers shown under this notation are 10 9 8, that it's not a first printing, but an eigth. It IS, however, signed by Nicholas Sparks on the title page, date 3-17-99. I guess my problem is that I don't know how to weigh the value of a first printing against superior condition and the book being a signed copy. Can anyone help, or direct me to some better resource?
Use ebay. Put the ISBN in the search and look for signed copies that have sold, in a condition similar to yours. Look only in completed auctions.
If there aren't any good matches, look up the ISBN, signed, on bookfinder.com and understand that the prices listed there are what the booksellers what to get for the book, not what they've necessarily sold for. Make sure you have the price listed that does NOT include postage.
If there are a lot of listings (more than 2 pages) throw out the bottom end prices and ignore the foreign bookseller's prices. That will give you a range of what a reasonable price is for that title.
