Hi , does anyone know or done ,a hdd conversion from pata (ide) to sata??? FOR A LAPTOP??? CAN IT BE DONE?
It seems HIGHLY UNLIKELY that this can be done within a laptop. I did a search and this forum post (see sources) seems to confirm my suspicions. It entirely possible to add an external SATA drive using a PCMCIA SATA card, but this will have no effect on the drive inside the computer.
I can't imagine how you would fit a converter card and a HDD into a space designed specifically to hold a HDD only.
~ UPDATE ~
Yes, it would seem that they do make converters for this specific purpose, however what you're using is an adapter. This adapter essentially converts your SATA drive to PATA, negating the speed advantages of using the SATA drive in the first place. See updated sources, or google "laptop pata to sata"
