Making Cabinet Doors?
Okay, so I built some "decent" cabinets for my laundry room. The problem I am having is making a set of doors that will fit and work properly. I tried making them out of 1/2 wood that I had cut to cover the entire frame of the cabinet and tried to mount them using "concealed"hinges. However, the hinge requires a 1-3/8 inch wide 1/2 deep hole driled in the door 1/8 inch from the edge of the door. Drilling a 1/2 inch deep hole in a 1/2 piece of wood doesn't work. Even if I leave the hole a little less than 1/2inch, the tip of the paddle bit will go through the other side of the door. I know I can use thicker wood but the during testing the 1/8 part on the edge of the door just cracks or breaks of completely. What am I doing wrong here?
P.S. Can a Forstner bit be used without a drill press?
use hinges that use smaller screws first of all, then when you go to put them on, drill a small hole just a bit smaller then the screws you are going to use, just be sure not to drill completely through the door. This will prevent cracking and splitting.
