Is a 17 inch laptop too big?
I want this laptop:

It has everything I need and want except battery (which is only 2hr) and size. (17in and 7.5lbs)
I am 6ft 3in so i don't think carrying this around will be too much of a big deal but I travel occasionally.
I will use this laptop for gaming, and watching movies.
Is this laptop too big for my purposes?
No. I had a 17 laptop for several years before it finally died. If you're willing to carry the weight, then you're fine.
PS. I did get stopped a couple times in the airport because the security guard assumed that there was NO laptop that big.
