How should I configure my RAM?
My girlfriend bought a used PC that came with 1 stick of ram 512mb in slot 1.
I do not know the speed of that 512mb stick but the computer supports PC2700 (333MHz) and PC2100 (266MHz) memory.
The PC has four slots for ram and can support up to 4gb max.
I bought 2 x 1gb sticks of PC 2700 ram and put them in slots 1 & 3 for dual channel support and removed the 512mb.
Should I add the 512mb stick of ram even if it runs at the slower PC2100 and if so, how should I have the ram configured in what slots
The PC is a ThinkCentre M50 8187-E1U

Stick with the 2GB's of DDR Sdram at 333MegaHertz!
As answered, the PC2100 will clock down your PC2700 to a 266MHz rate. 2GB's is all you need, and with the processor the M50 has, it will do just fine. http://reviews.cnet.com/desktops/lenovo-thinkcentre-m50-8187/4507-3118_7-30413569.html?tag=mncol;psum (Besides, it has Windows XP, and it's going to be the 32bit version. A 32bit Operating System will only recognize 3.2GB's to 3.5GB's. The processor the M50 has will be doing good to use 2GB's anyway. Plus more than 2GB's is overrated. You just have to look up the way ram works to understand. If the processor won't handle it, you're wasting your money)
