Dell Laptop HDD upgrade from 30 gb to 160gb?
I have a Dell Inspiron 1150 , comes with a 30 gb IDE hdd. I need to upgrade it and cannot find one smaller than 160 gb but I am worried that my laptop won't be able to recognize it. Please help ...
Have you looked anyplace like eBay for an HDD that's maybe 60GB? I know I've seen them there. Whether or not they were for a Dell Inspirion, I don't know. They are most likely used, too, but a lot of the eBay sellers give a money back guarantee, with some limitations.
Another thing you can do, is check your user manual. They will usually provide information about what upgrades the computer will take. Last resort, go ahead and buy the 160GB HDD, and take it back to where you bought it if it doesn't work. Vendors are usually very happy to help you out. They want you to come back and do business with them again. From my experience with changing HDDs, and making big leaps in capacity like from 30GB to 160GB, is that it isn't a problem.
