Please explain the input power specs to me!!!!?
iPad adapter specs: Input: 100-240V~ 0.45A (0.45A) 50-60Hz Output: 5.1V-----2.1A
I understand what all of the above mean however I am unsure what the current reading between brackets after the current rating to the left of that means. Please help me.
Your input adapter specifies that it may use any voltage between 100 and 240 volts AC, which you already know. The voltage, which is alternating current (household power), may be supplied between 50 and 60 Hertz, or cycles per second. The United States operates on 110-120 volts AC at 60 Hertz, while the UK and most of Europe use 220-240 volts AC at 50 Hertz. Plainly put, your adapter is safe to plug in virtually anywhere in the world without problems.
The 0.45A means that the adapter will draw .45 amperes of current. This number is important when plugging your adapter into a power strip with other devices on it, so that you do not overload the circuit and cause an unsafe condition. Most wall outlets worldwide will handle 15 amperes of current, and power strips generally will handle 10 to 15 amperes, so you should be fine as long as the power strip isn't loaded up with too many devices. You can use the amperage and the voltage to figure out the device's power consumption in watts, which will tell you how much power your adapter (and iPad) will use. Multiply the .45A by the voltage where you will be plugging it in. In the US, the average household voltage is 115 volts AC, so 115 x .45 = 51.75 watts, less power than the average light bulb consumes.
The final numbers are, as they claim, output voltages and amperage for your device. The adapter provides 2.1 amperes of current at 5.1 volts DC, which works out to 10.71 watts. That's pretty inefficient when compared to the 51+ watts of input power, but 10.71 watts is plenty to charge a device quickly and handle any power consumption from using the device while plugged in.
So, the final verdict is that your adapter can be used anywhere worldwide, consumes a pretty negligible amount of power, and provides a good, strong output for charging your iPad and using it while plugged in. You have nothing to worry about; plug it in anywhere freely and enjoy.
