Can I close my Dell 600M laptop and use my 'regular' monitor and full size keyboard via my port replicator?
I have a Dell Inspiron 600M. Almost a year ago, I also bought a port replicator hoping to be able to close my laptop and use a full-size keyboard and a regular, flat screen monitor. Can I do that? Somebody told me they thought that there was no setting to allow for that with my laptop/port replicator combo, only a true docking station.
Absolutely you should be able to do this.
If your replicator looks anything like this one, then you have the USB ports for the keyboard... and the Video ports for your monitor.

If you close the lid, that should "force" the video to go out through the monitor, but if it doesn't, then you can toggle the video by pressing the Fn key (blue on in the bottom left corner of the keyboard) and the F8 key.
Pressing them together once will force the video away from the LCD screen on the portable to the monitor, pressing them twice will give you video in both displays, and pressing the third time will bring it back to the LCD on your 600M.
If you do the Fn+F8 keystoke to get the video on the external monitor, you can then close the lid on the portable.
Should work fine!
