Do the 2008 models of Apple's Macbook Pro (specifically the 17inch) still have the expanding battery problem?
I've heard the older 2006 models had problems with the battery's thermal expansion, causing the bottom of the laptop to warp and shutdown randomly. Do the latest macbooks still have this problem with the battery?
Yeah - they do.
This is what ruined my boyfriend's laptop and my girlfriend's boyfriend's laptop - both 17" MacBook Pros. The heat is awful on those things and it still has the issues.
The batteries recalled before were not this kind - that was not the issue. These haven't been recalled yet and are still being used.
My boyfriend's didn't shut down - it only shuts down if you are not plugged in. Jason's blew up while running Warcraft 3 with an external fan attached. He had it plugged in and it didn't shut down.
Apple also refused to replace the case even though we pointed out a bowing in the case. Two months later the screen died and a guy at the Apple store took it home to see what was going on - called us and said the computer was so bad (parts had melted) he was going to give us a new computer.
That shouldn't happen - sorry. It should dissipate heat better
