Are There Laptop Motherboards For Sale?
I have a HP dv7 (http://www.insidemylaptop.com/disassemble-hp-pavilion-dv7-notebook/) my goal is to rip everything out and put newer/better stuff in. I've figured on; a new HDD, new OS, double the RAM (8GB), an AMD Phenom II processor, and this is where I'm unsure I'd like to swap the motherboard out and put a new GPU on (maybe a GTX 480M), but...
Are laptop motherboards interchangeable (and if they are where do I buy them)? Looking on sites like newegg, I haven't seen laptop motherboards for sale. Would I be left with sticking a new GPU onto my old motherboard, or are there (gaming) motherboards from the big manufacturers?
Laptops are bad news when it comes to upgrades. Their cases are so tight and customized - even the motherboard - that you'll have no chance of finding a replacement board unless it's exactly like the one that came out (and give you zero advantage).
That's why people still use desktop type computers. More possibilities with off the shelf parts - just not portable.
