Why does my laptop read 3gb of ddr memory when I installed 4gb of memory?
I installed 4gb on to my laptop but I look into the properties it say it 3gb why is it?
If you are running Vista (32 bit) then the operating system won't recognize it. The 32 bit edition only recognizes up to 3 GB of RAM. You'll have to upgrade to Vista (64 bit) in order for it to recognize all 4 GB of RAM. You don't have to get Vista Ultimate to recognize the 4 GB. Vista Premium has a 64 bit edition. You'll also have to make sure that your processor can handle 64 bit. If not then your better off getting rid of the extra gig. Unless you want to buy a new processor.
