Can i use a laptop adapter from a different laptop?
I have an acer laptop adapter @ 19v , 3.42A and accroding to google i need an adapter for a hp dv9000 of 19v , 4.74A i guess this wo#t work as the amps are different, could i damage the laptop if i tried this?
Yes you could damage the laptop.
You see, the Acer brick puts out 65 watts. Your HP demands 90 watts. Volts x Amps = Watts.
Let's break down what will happen. Your HP will run hotter than it should, because it is going to have to work harder with less juice.
Now, what *might* happen... your battery won't charge while the laptop is in use, because there isn't enough power to do both.... OR your laptop shuts down when you perform power intensive tasks, as if it was overheating.... OR your battery heats up because it cannot charge properly.... OR you damage the charging circuit in the laptop... or something I haven't covered.
So, just get the proper replacement power adapter for your laptop. You can get one on Ebay for $25 and it will come direct from the manufacturer in China. More importantly, you can buy the SAME EXACT brick that HP would sell you, for a fraction of the cost.
Unless you don't care if you trash your laptop...
Oh, and you don't have dv9000... that is the series. You Actually have a DV9210us, or DV9780ea or something similar. It is printed on a white tag on the bottom of your laptop. Make sure you use that model number when searching for your power brick.
