My laptop is running extremely slow, how do I fix this?
It started when I downloaded the program to update my Android phone. I uninstalled that program, installed a new virus program, uninstalled unnecessary programs, did a system restore to before I installed the Android update program, disk defrag, everything I can think of. It literally takes at least 4 hours to load anything that automatically starts when the computer is turned on. It runs perfectly fine in safe mode though. What else can I possibly do?
could be a number of things
where did you get this "android" program, and is it safe?. if it's a pirate copy, it could have a virus.
is the hard disk dying, has some RAM packed up.? did you check those?
how full is the hard disk?, you should keep more than 15% free.
did you completely uninstall the old virus program?? if you have 2 running, that could be the problem.
ccleaner will help you clear up history, cookies, the registry, plus remove startup programs and uninstall things
if all else fails, go to http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407, it could take another 4 hours, but your machine will be clean afterwards, and it's helpful self tuition.
i've used that, or similar sites for years, and they have all the tools i need to clean up buddies computers.
PS. Forget the MSCONFIG thing. that will just stop programs running, and other tools that analyse your system for viruses, will not find or remove them.
