Is there any chance of data being erased etc if i connect old XP laptop 3.5 drive in caddy to new Vista 64 PC?
My old laptop running XP died- for no apparent reason the screen went into black and white stripes. After restarting, everything looked fine, apart from the keyboard and mouse wouldnt work. I think the motherboard had a problem. Anyway, ive got a 3.5" caddy for the 3.5" laptop drive and want to connect it to my new pc running Vista 64, to get the files off it. Is there any chance of any problems doing this? Someone told me there's a chance Vista could wipe the old drive when i connect it, is this true? Wouldn't it just show as an external drive? Does it make a difference whether its NTFS or FAT32 , because i can't remember which format my old 3.5" drive is. Thanks for any help...
It's a USB caddy or an internal caddy? Only thing you must be aware off is the caddy. If caddy is apropriate for a laptop drive, then go on with transfer.
I mean caddy must give the apropriate voltage to laptop hardisk to operate. Or else you may damage the hard drive.
This must be your only concern, though if the voltage is apropriate and hard disk in candy works fine then you should have no problem to transfer files.
VISTA WILL recognise it as a second external/internal hard drive.
Have a nice day.
