How do the wireless laptop connect cards work???
Im thinking about getting one but is it worth it and how much will it end up costing me?
Wireless or Wi-Fi is a technology that let computers, mobile phones and other Wi-Fi supported devices connect to a LAN (Local Area Network) over radio waves (wirelessly). The operating frequency is 2.4GHz. It is a direct substitute for your network cable, no cables therefore very convenient. Since Wi-Fi is becoming very popular (at homes, companies, schools and public internet access areas : coffee shops, restaurants) it has become a must have feature on every notebook.
Most new notebooks (even ones that were released 2~3 years back) have built-in Wi-Fi adapters, therefore chances are you already have one in your notebook. But if you don’t ,then you can either get a PCMCIA / Expresscard or USB wireless adapter for somewhere around $50 or less.
However, if you want to make your home internet connection wireless, then you will also need a Wireless router (access point). Which will cost you another $50.
