Yes it will work with Linux just fine. I notice there is a choice of Vista or XP in the specs. of the package, in which you may want to consider a Dual Boot.

You can install Ubuntu 8.04.1 by installing it within Windows using the Wubi installer.

You keep Windows as it is, Wubi only adds an extra option to boot into Ubuntu. Wubi does not require you to modify the partitions of your PC, or to use a different bootloader, and does not install special drivers. It works just like any other application.

Wubi keeps most of the files in one folder, and if you do not like it, you can simply uninstall it as any other application.

I DO NOT recommend Ubuntu 8.10 as it is unstable. Wubi installer for Ubuntu 8.04.1 can be downloaded from here http://wubi-installer.org/devel/minefield/ version Wubi-8.04.1-rev506

Alternatively you can install a proper Dual Boot.
