Will my laptop work efficiently or even work at all with this ram upgrade?
Currently im thinking of purchasing this ram "Kingston HyperX 4GB (2 x 2GB) 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Laptop Memory" from newegg.ca I am wondering if this ram would work with my asus f3sv series laptop.
Well i only have a 32 bit vista operating system and i have 2 gigabytes of ram already is it worth the upgrade to the 4 gigs or is my os only going to read 3 gigs of my memory.
Your OS only sees 3GB of memory for programs, as the next GB is reserved for the video and the BIOS. Still, it never hurts to max out your memory. The extra GB helps Vista quite a bit, since the OS uses most of the first GB for Aero and the other gizmos.
Also, you can install Ubuntu on your laptop and get the full 4GB of memory without removing Vista. You can download Wubi from the Ubuntu site and play with Ubuntu to see if you like it.
I suspect that 64-bit Windows will replace 32-bit Windows at some point soon, so you'll be able to stretch out the life of your laptop with more memory.
Is it worth $57? Only you can answer that, but you should shop around a little too. Try Microcenter, they sometimes have memory cheaper than Newegg.
