Dvd drive is not detecting the inserted disc on my laptop.?
I am having a problem.
When I insert the disc into my dell studio 1558 laptop dvd drive, nothing is detected
and shows no disc in my computer. No response. Just a sound from drive for few
seconds and then silence.
When I click the drive icon, instead of opening the disc, it ejects the disc every time.
I have tried changing the discs and type of discs like data, software, music.
I am using windows 7 home premium 64-bit.

That sounds like your disk drive is going to die.
Sometime you get this issue when you have a disk that is not compatible with your DVD drive; i.e. if you burned the dvd yourself but if its like a application cd/dvd that you purchased it should be fine.
If you happen to have another computer where the same disk can be read fine but the laptop won't read it I would say its the dvd drive's lens going dead.
Note: You can also check to see if there are any firmware upgrades from DELL on the dvd drives. Check your firmware version of the DVD drive and see what the latest firmware is for your dvd drive.
