How can I extend my wireless network so that I can connect wirelessly on my laptop out of my router's range?
I have a 2wire DSL router on one side of my house. On the other side (through 2 walls and 50-60feet), I have a desktop PC that has a solid, strong wireless connection to my router. My laptop, however, is unable to obtain a connection at all unless I hold the laptop 7 feet in the air. Obviously, that's not going to work. Is there some sort of USB attachment that would turn my wirelessly-connected desktop into a "wireless router" of sorts to connect my laptop to? Or do I need to buy a network extender and install it at a midpoint between the two rooms?
So, you're saying that your laptop from the same distance that your desktop system is from the WiFi router is unable to connect well?
If that's the case, my thinking is that the problem is with your laptop and not your wireless network.
Is the radio in the laptop the same type (801.11b/g/etc.) as that in the desktop? If it isn't, can you get an replacement radio for it that is?
Other than that, there are such things that are sold that are called "WiFi Repeaters" that might help you out. They don't require any wiring and just receive and retransmit your WiFi signal for you to increase the range.
