What is better: 512MB NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 240M or 1GB NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 260M for an alienware 15inch laptop?
i going to be using it for school, listening to music, going on the WWW, sometimes watch blue rays and playing games FSX and Dawn of War 2.
the 1Gb GPU i have to get a slower procecer (1.63GHZ) unless i run it in turbo mode (2.8GHZ) when i want to play games and watch movies.
the GT 240M is completely sufficient for the things you listed. The GTX 260M is more powerful, but uses more power and lowers battery life.
the GTX 260M is better for Gaming at higher resolutions like 1920x1080p or lower resolution with 4xAA. Be aware that Alienware laptops are pretty expensive, very heavy, and pretty thick.
If you just want a decent laptop of school then I recommend the Macbook it's only $1000, has a Core 2 duo 2.2GHz CPU and Nvidia 9400M GPU. Or the HP Envy 15, it' only cost $1200, but comes with the new i5/i7 CPUs and the ATI Radeon Mobility 5830. The Envy 15 is one of the most powerful, sleekest, slim, yet cheap laptops I've seen in a while.
