Hard Drive Problem Laptop- - No IDE Device -- -HP pavilion dv6000?

HP Pavilion dv6000 Laptop.

Hard Drive Died. I boght a western digital replacement hard drive which is brand new.

The laptop keeps turning on and off after I turn on the power button unless in press F10 or ESC which take me to BIOS or

BOOT OPTIONS respectively.

I have put in the hard drive and when i try to install windows and I get the to the section where windows tells me to

select a drive for the installation there are no drives displayed.

When I restart the computer, sometimes it recognises the windows boot disk cD and sometimes it doesn't.

When I enter BIOS and go the "DIAGNOSTICS" tab it states that there is "NO IDE DEVICE". I have checked the jumper settings

on the new hard drive and they seem correct.

When I press ESC at startup for "BOOT OPTIONS" it dialog box comes up with "BOOT MENU" and "Enter Setup" Options

Any help welcomed.
