I have a Dell inspiron 17 laptop and it was sometimes going off by itself, even when the battery is say half full so its not due to the battery being too low. This morning I started it twice and after I got it to the windows desktop it was loading nicely and then it just stopped working completely. If the battery was too low it would hibernate but it didnt do that. it does this a lot going off at random times but this morning I couldnt start it so Im using a pc till I can try and fix it. Its vista home premium incase that makes a difference Here's my checklist for random freezes/crashes/shutdowns/restarts: Things you should do: --Check for malware and spyware: --Run Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool : http://www.pchell.com/virus/malicioussoftwareremovaltool.shtml --Check your RAM for errors: --Check your hard drive: -- Open up your case and check the capacitors on your motherboard and on your video card. Click on the Start button, then on [My] Computer. Right click on your Windows drive (usually C:) and then click on Properties. Click on the 'Tools' tab and then click on the 'Check Now' button under 'Error checking'. In the 'Check Disk' windows, make sure both check boxes are marked and then click on the 'Start' button. It should tell you that it wants to run when you restart your computer. Click on OK to schedule the scan and then restart your computer.
