When I use my laptop on my leg, it leaves a burn mark?
I recently started to place my laptop on my legs while using it. I noticed a weird mark only on my left side, where the heat comes out the most. It looks like a burn mark, but it doesn't feel like anything.. it just looks kind of red and it's spotted. It seems like the heat is making the mark on my leg. Before the visual spot did not last, but now it seems more permanent.
Does anyone know anything about this?
To answer someone's questions, yes I do take really hot showers and nothing ever happens to me then. But i guess it could be a burn without me realizing it. Thanks for your help!
It's called erythema ab igne. The heat from the laptop is toasting your skin. This can cause pernament redness(erythema), skin thinness(atrophy), and eventually skin lesions that can cause burning pain. Your skin is now spotted or mottled. I strongly, strongly advise to keep your legs away from any source of heat for at least the next year. This means the heat from the sun, saunas, soaking in a hottub, anything for your skin to heal. I have this skin condition on my legs from working in a foundry and my skin is now very painful in the summer and feels like a sunburn 24/7. Do not put any steroid medication on your legs, it will thin your skin and make it worse. I strongly suggest printing out the link I'm giving you and contact the consumer product safety office so they can put proper warning on laptops. Erythema ab igne is not well known to doctors. I had to go to three dermatologists before a old guy recognized it. This takes longer to heal than a burn.
