Why does it show in srtest.com that i have 1GB of video memory when i only have 256MB of ddr3 graphics memory?
I have a MSI EX300 with a ATI Radeon HD3450 with 256MB DDR3 memory. Now when i go to srtest.com to see if my laptop can run certain games, it says there that my video memory is 1GB. Why is that? Layman's terms please. Thanks!=)
The graphics card on my laptop is dedicated.
You have a mother board with an on board graphics card. meaning you dont buy an extra card to plug your monitor in. So this means that aside from the memory the on board graphics card (256 MB) the graphics will also share some of your system memory (or RAM to make it work better).
So if you installed 4 GB of system RAM then your graphics is essentially stealing 1 GB to make it work better.
